Petros Bakas has many reasons to feel at home on board Celebrity Equinox.  He was only six months old the first time he sailed with Celebrity. It was on Celebrity that he took his first steps as a toddler. And throughout his life, he listened intently when his father – one of Celebrity’s chief engineers of 30 years – spoke about the complicated systems of ship engines.

“In my family, when we talk about working in the marine sector, of course we’re talking about working for Celebrity,” he said. “Apart from this being my second home, I’m proud to continue my father’s legacy with this majestic company.”

Petros earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Sunderland University and a master’s in marine engineering and management. Now an apprentice engineer on Celebrity Equinox, he trained in the engine room under the watchful eye of the experienced crew and with his father’s guidance, honing his problem-solving skills to become skilled marine engineer.

“Whenever I’m onboard Celebrity, whether it’s on Equinox or Reflection, any ship or class, I always feel like I’m in my home. I feel safe and secure, like everything is running like a clock,” he said.

Now at the beginning of his second contract, he feels a great sense of pride to be a part of the team responsible for overcoming unexpected obstacles to ensure we deliver the best vacation experiences to our guests every single day.

“Everyone is like a family here, we’re all treated equally,” he said.

In his short time with RCG, he’s learned that it doesn’t matter if you’re the fastest or the best as long as you’re putting in the effort and are committed to your work.

“This is the best place you can be to actually improve yourself – not just with a promotion or salary – but also to increase your performance and productivity,” he said. “Every day, I feel pride working for this company and I want to give 110 percent so I can deliver the best experience to our guests because they’re what makes us whole.”
