In less than two years with Royal Caribbean Group, Renato Pereira has made new friends and enjoyed some incredible travel moments – like the time in Gibraltar when a monkey jumped on his head to steal food from his backpack.

“I didn’t know if the monkey was going to bite me or what,” he said with laughter. “I’ve never seen monkeys in my life so at first it was scary but now it’s a fun, funny memory.”

Originally from Brazil, Renato works as a Pool Attendant on Freedom of the Seas and loves interacting with guests from different cultures, discovering new countries, and learning new languages. In fact, he said his fluency in English and Spanish has improved since he’s been on board, and that comes in handy a lot.

“Sometimes the guests have questions and are looking for someone to speak their language, and I want to offer all I know to the guests,” he said. “They say, ‘You’re so kind, so amazing, thank you!’ And to me that’s most important.”

Now on his third contract, Renato previously worked as a pool attendant on Jewel of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas. He’s interested in exploring more roles on the ship, like guest services, sports staff and bartending, where he can lend his talents and skills while expanding his knowledge about our ships and the industry.

“RCG offers a lot of training and resources through RCL University to help advance your career onboard,” he said.

“I’m grateful to work here because this experience for me has been wonderful,” he said “We have the largest ships in the world and hundreds of destinations – there’s so much to be discovered, and I hope people will get to experience the quality of the rooms and food we have onboard, and the experiences we deliver to our guests.”
