Ines Alvarez
Sr. Manager, Global Trade Marketing and National Accounts | Silversea
Ines Alvarez’s career began with a dream to escape the Canadian winter by working on a ship for six months. Now some 16 years later, Silversea’s Sr. Manager of Global Trade Marketing and National Accounts says hard work, networking and collaboration have propelled her career forward with Royal Caribbean Group in various roles, both shipboard and shoreside.
“I always want people to realize that you can enrich your career in many ways, even laterally,” she said. “Moving forward doesn’t have to mean moving up.”
During her first shipboard role she learned about shipboard operations and met people from all over the world. She enjoyed it so much that she went on to work on various ships and roles over the next seven years.
In 2003, she decided to change course and accepted a shoreside position leading the Fleet Training Team. From 2007 through 2010, she served as Manager for Marine Administration and Marine Workforce Planning & Scheduling before taking a hiatus to pursue other interests within the cruise industry. In 2022, her expertise brought her back to Silversea where she now leads marketing for the travel advisor channel.
“I love my job and I love the brand,” she said. “I am privileged to work in the ultra-luxury cruise space and every day I have the opportunity to contribute, add value, and keep learning new things.”
She sees her career journey as a testament to the limitless opportunities available to those who dare to dream, work hard and seize opportunities as they come.
“It’s important to collaborate, network, and prove you can get the work done,” she said. “You must get to know your leaders and have mentors that can support you in your achievements.”
Above all else, she says building relationships with her colleagues has been an important part of her success along the way.
“I think people would be surprised to learn how diverse our community of employees is at RCG. Whether you work shipboard or shoreside, people come from all over the world. A company is not a company without its people, and we have the best people in the industry.”
