Bernard Flores
Public Areas Manager, Odyssey of the Seas
For over two decades, Bernard Flores has been a dedicated and inspiring member of the Royal Caribbean Group. His journey began in 2001 when he first started working as a Galley Steward onboard Legend of the Seas. Over time, he worked his way up, making friends and influencing those around him along the way.
“Every time I had the opportunity, I took it,” Bernard said. “I did the training. I did a lot of planning, and I took action. Gradually, I moved up the ranks until I got the position of a Restaurant Supervisor.”
Transitioning to a new role can be challenging, but Bernard’s proactive approach has always been his strength.
“When I transitioned to a new role in this organization, I set my own goals and then put the action together,” he said. “Seeking out additional training, collaborating with colleagues and adjusting my workload helped me adapt to my new environment.”
He says collaboration has been key to his successes with RCG and he enjoys serving as a mentor to members of his team. Doing so creates an environment where ideas can flourish enabling his team to reach the best outcomes together.
“For me, it is not about how high my position is, how many stripes I carry on my shoulder, it is not the title or the rank that matters at all; It is about the well-being of the people,” he said. “This is how I value people first in the workplace, where I become the father figure to my team, and I lead like a dad would.”
After 23 years with the company, Bernard said he is proud to tell people that he is a part of Royal Caribbean Group.
“There is no doubt that RCG is one of the best when it comes to the cruise industry,” he said. “The brand resonates with me because I have seen firsthand over the last 23 years, how it has evolved and embraced change, especially during COVID, while still being authentic and caring with our crew and guests.”
