For Mary Ciel “Ralf” Piedad Balantac, every day onboard our ships is magic. “There are a lot of things happening behind [closed] doors, and it’s like magic,” shared Ralf. If someone hasn’t heard of Royal Caribbean Group, they’d be surprised to learn how much is always going on to get things in ship-shape for debarkation, embarkation and every day in between.
Ralf has an impressive technician background, which has benefited her greatly in her role as Casino Slot Manager. “I hold and maintain all the slot machines you see on the floor, as well as maintaining the machine equipment on the tables, like shufflers,” Ralf said, “We’re kind of like maintenance of the casino – we need to make sure everything is in place and working.”
While working for Royal Caribbean Group, many employees find themselves seeking out mentors or mentees. Ralf said, “Mentorship is huge and has a really big impact. When I started with Celebrity Cruises, I didn’t know where I was going. I was really grateful to my mentor; he pushed me in a way that benefited me.”
For Ralf, mentorship has had a really big impact on her. “Mentorship guides a person to doing the right thing all the time. When I come to know another crew member, I try to guide them and mentor them, even if they’re in another department,” Ralf shared. It’s all about teamwork and putting in the effort to help others succeed!
