Matthew Pereda

Director of Safety, Security & Environment | Royal Caribbean Group

From a young age, Matthew Pereda has been immersed in the vibrant culture of Royal Caribbean Group. His connection to the company runs deep, with his godmother currently working at RCG and his mother having been an employee years ago. In fact, Matthew was one of the first children to attend Little Cruisers, a shoreside childcare program. Today, he is a proud member of the RCG family, contributing to the company’s success in his role in the Safety, Security, & Environment department.  

Matthew’s journey with RCG is a testament to the company’s commitment to fostering long-term relationships and supporting personal and professional growth. He utilized the tuition reimbursement benefit to earn his master’s in business administration, a milestone that significantly advanced his career. “I truly appreciate Royal for what they did for that,” he shared.   
 
Matthew’s career at RCG has been marked by a diverse range of roles, each contributing to his professional development: 

  • Temp/Vendor – Shipboard Employee File Room 
  • Temp/Vendor – Crew Administration 
  • Part-Time Employee & then Full-Time – Associate HR Fleet Operations 
  • Analyst – Crew Port Logistics & Vendor Management 
  • Lead – Global Crew Logistics & Vendor Management 
  • Manager – Global Crew Logistics & Vendor Management 
  • Sr. Manager – Global Employee Logistics & Expense Management 
  • Director – Safety, Security, & Environment 
     

Reflecting on his experience, Matthew highlighted the unique culture and people at RCG. “We deliver amazing experiences and amazing vacations to our guests, but behind the scenes there is an even better group of people that make it all happen,” he said.   
  
Previously, Matthew served in the HR department, where he was deeply involved in crew movement, and had recently welcomed a new group of crew members to Celebrity Ascent in France. “Seeing just how excited they are to go back on board to visit their shipboard families is one of the most rewarding things,” he noted.  
 
In his current role, Matthew serves as the Director of Safety, Security & Environment. He supports various teams within the department and his responsibilities include managing departmental KPIs, supporting the growth and strategy of the team, and overall project management for the department. “We work hard. We work crazy hours sometimes. But again, we do this because we want to support one another and deliver the best possible experience to our guests,” he said.  
 
Matthew sees his role as integral to the continued growth and success of the company. With RCG continuously developing and delivering new ships, his responsibility is to ensure the best safety, security, and environmental standards are upheld.  
 
When asked about the recent photography project with Steve McCurry, Matthew expressed his hopes that people see the fun and unique environment at RCG. “We work in this crazy environment, but we have fun at the same time. This is a fun company to work for,” he said.   
 
Matthew’s journey with RCG, from a Little Cruiser to a dedicated Director of Safety, Security, and Environment, embodies the essence of our Propelled by People initiative.
