Petros Pettas
Engineer | Celebrity Equinox
If there’s one thing you should know about Petros Pettas it is that his relentless curiosity has paved his career and continues to push him to be his best self.
From an early age, he was eager to understand how machinery, simple and complex, worked by disassembling and assembling them. Growing up in Greece in a family full of seamen, he’d hear stories of adventures at sea. No sooner did Petros realize his destiny was to be a marine engineer for a company that would give him the opportunity to create his very own maritime adventures.
He joined Royal Caribbean Group as a 3rd engineer because he heard about how well they treated their crew members and wanted to experience that for himself. Two years into his profession, he can attest that the company’s values align with his, and this includes putting its people first. “Royal Caribbean Group is a company that goes above and beyond to create a great working environment we can call our home away from home,” he said.
“Being an engineer is all about being a ghost around the ship,” Petros jokes. “Not many people can see what we really do. Not many people can appreciate our daily efforts of hard work. But, when I finish my work at night, and go to bed, [I think] I’m still sleeping on a bed on a moving ship, moving safely so I know somehow, I did my bit to for this ship to travel safely.”
When you see his photo from the Propelled by People: Our Stories photo series, captured by famous photographer, Steve McCurry, Petros hopes you think to yourself: hard work pays off.
